Where is C-O2 located?

C-O2 is located in the Rockyview Health Centre II building
Suite 210, 1016 – 68 Avenue SW
Calgary, Alberta  T2V 4J2
(Off Glenmore Trail and Elbow Drive)

What do I need to bring?

For your first visit to C-O2 you will need to bring your Alberta Health Care card and your medications (doses and strengths). You are welcome to bring a companion or interpreter to ensure your clear understanding of assessment results and follow up requirements.

Is there any testing on my first visit?

Generally you can expect a pulmonary function test, chest X-ray (if there are no contraindications) and have your blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation checked. As well, your height, weight and waist measurements will be taken.

How long will I be at C-O2?

  • Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) take one hour.
  • Consultations take approximately 45 minutes.

Can I eat before I come? Can I take my medications?

Yes. There is no special preparation for your first visit. If you are required to return for further testing, you will receive a pamphlet outlining any special preparation.

Is there any preparation required for a Pulmonary Function Test?

  • Refrain from smoking 24 hours before the test.
  • Avoid eating a large meal for 2 hours before the test.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for 30 minutes before the test.
  • Avoid alcohol on the day before the test.
  • Bring your inhalers and any spacer devices you may use.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing.
  • Do not use your inhaled medications on the day of testing and/or follow instructions in the preparation pamphlet, which you will receive prior to the test.
  • Please advise the respiratory therapist if you have had any recent treatment with antibiotics or steroids.
  • If you are required to return for further testing, you will receive the preparation pamphlet that outlines any special preparation.
  • To get an accurate pre-bronchodilator test result, we ask patients to refrain from using their inhaled bronchodilators prior to testing.
  • If the patient has taken these medications prior to testing, the respiratory therapist will note this on the report for the interpreting Pulmonologist.

Do I have to pay for testing at C-O2?

No. All services provided at C-O2 are covered by Alberta Health Services. Quebec residents must pay fees for testing and seek reimbursement from their provincial health care. Please note there is a metered parking lot at the Rockyview Health Centre II.

Does my family doctor receive the results from my consultation at C-O2?

Yes. Your family doctor receives the results of all consultations, testing and follow-up appointments.

Do I need a referral to see a C-O2 Respiratory Therapist?

Yes. For us to see you at the C-O2 Clinic your family doctor or another physician must refer you.

Are there any side effects to any test I will have at C-O2? Should I bring someone to drive me home?

No. You should not experience any side effects to testing done at C-O2. You will able to drive yourself home.
